Mushroom Cultivation for Women Empowerment

Recently, a training programme was organized by the Department of Biotechnology, Brainware University for the local women from the “Self-help Group” at Paschim Khilkapur, Panchayat Office, Moina, 24 PGS (N) under the guidance of Dr. Samarjit Ray. The program was scheduled on 14th May, 2022.

The presentation was given in local vernacular to explain the overall process of mushroom cultivation which included maintenance of pure cultures, production of Mother spawn, cultivation spawn, prevention of contamination and quality control of spawn, post-harvest packaging and management etc. This highly interactive session helped these women to expand their knowledge in order to start a small scale business. We have initiated their journey of mushroom cultivation by providing them with spawn and mushroom bed.
